☣️ Chemotherapy is a very serious treatment.
ℹ️ That's why at Oncology office of IU Clinic we follow special safety rules to protect patients, medical staffs and environment.
Below are some of them:
✅ control patient’s condition: before chemo, during chemo and minimum 2 hrs after chemo;
✅ control patient's data (name, age, ID) before dilution of chemotherapy medications; -> comparing data in patient's documents (prescription) and on stickers, those we attach on vials with chemo. Information of the stickers: name of the patient, names and doses of chemo, speed and duration of infusion;
✅dilution of chemo in biology safety cabinet to avoid spread of toxic aerosols outside;
✅ packing vials / syringes with chemo in special plastic bags with mark ☣️“Biology hazard” (full vials - for transportation to patients, empty vials, empty syringes and infusion lines - for special utilization);
✅ control of duration and speed of chemotherapy infusion;
✅ wearing gloves, special uniform, medical caps and masks for all staffs.
When the treatment session is over, these items and medical equipment for dilution (syringes, needles etc.) are disposed of in plastic bags with mark ☣️“Biology hazard”.
